What I learned in English class 2010. Like all English classes your single goal is to become a better writer. Our main subject for the semester was to come up with a topic, this topic would be used for all of the assigned papers. We where able to choose any topic we would like this being something we knew, do, or just wanted to learn about.
For my SLT (semester long topic) I choose MASS MURDER. Going into a criminal justice program at Salt Lake Community College and wanting to make a career in this type of field. I thought it would be fun, something different then the everyday topic. Going into this topic I had a vary well knowledge of what I was talking about. Taking a few classes in Psychology of Criminal Behavior, and other Law Enforcement classes, gave me the jump I needed to get the work done. Beside in school work I have done lots of other research to get a better understanding on the subject. I’ve watched several documentaries, movies, and articles on the internet to help with my understanding of Mass Murder. For our first paper we did a movie review, this of course being on out topic subject. I have never done a review before so I thought this would be cool. Our professor showed us a couple of short film movie clips and several different articles on movie reviews. That was a big help on the making of my film review. I choose the movie Maniac, this film was a remake of an earlier movie. I found that doing a movie review was one of the easiest papers we had done. For the next project we had to do a paper on a person or profile. Much like the film review we watched clips, and heard audio of people profiling. I choose to do my profile on Jeffery Dahmer. In a few other classes of mine throughout my college days I had studied and done research on Jeffery Dahmer, so I had good head start and knew what I needed to talk about tho get my paper done. For our last topic paper we did, was on an argument in the subject. This I found a little hard but after talking with friends and students I was able to come up with a argument. This argument was on Nature vs. Nurture. This being how a child is raised and brought up in a family and the cause and effect it will hold on their upbringing. This class opened new ways to look for and research topics, and different genre. It was very helpful and useful and something that can be use later on in my career field. |

30 April 2014 Brandon Alva English 2010 Restaurant review Red rock in the city Utah is home to the famous red rock mountains located in southern Utah, but who would know you could find it in downtown Salt Lake city. Red Rock brewery located in the hart of down town Salt Lake city Utah has been around for many many years. They are best known for their wide selection of beers, and great food selection. I went to Red Rock with a graduation party on a Monday evening as we arrived the restaurant was hoping, and in full action being just after the dinner rush. Normally you would not need a reservation, and would be seated quick! but as we where coming with 20 plus people we thought ahead and called in. We only waited for five to seven minutes before they where ready to seat us. As we where being lead to our tables, the restaurant walls where decorated with old time pictures and painted in red as if your where in the red rock canyons. Faint music was playing, but that out heard by the restaurants audience. Instead you heard cheerful laughter and loud applauds when your favorite team scored a goal on the many TV’s located throughout the establishment. As we where finally seated the waiters sprung into action taking our orders and drinks, they would even offer menu suggestions, and if you ordered a alcoholic beverage they would pair food items with certain drinks to assure the most flavor. The menu was well organized and easy to read, making your decision much easier. I ordered their buffalo chicken sandwich, which came with your choice of fries, side salad, or baked potato. My girlfriend ordered there BLT sandwich which came with the same sides. Being with such a large group it took awhile for our food to come out, but with quick refills and sides of bread we where in no hurry. Once the food finally arrived I was blown away with the large size of the sandwich, thinking I would get a little dinky thing with a couple of fries, I was stunned trying to figure a way to get my mouth around the sandwich. Thinking I was the only spoiled one with such a large portion I glanced and everyone else’s and shocked to see they had just as much food. In all, the menu was fairly priced anything from 2$ and as high 25$ for thick slap of steak, and all the extra sides you could ask for. The drink menu was about the same however being a beer lover I found the prices to be a bit cheaper then most restaurants, only paying 4$ compared to 6 and 7$ at other places. We didn’t even look at the dessert menu, being that we where to full to even consider taking another bite of what only looked to be heaven made of chocolate. Our over all experience was nothing short of amazing, and being with such a big crowed the severs didn’t miss a beat everyone got what they ordered and more. I would like to return soon and highly recommend the Red Rock brewery to anyone looking for a great place to chow down at. Service Food Entertainment Price 4out of 5 4out of 5 5 out of 5 $-$$ |
